Troubleshooting issues

For issues with uploads, downloads, Personal Groups or searching activity

Updated over 6 months ago

Apart from using a modern HTML5 browser, there are no other software prerequisites.

If you are uploading 1,000 files or more, you will need to compress the data beforehand. MX will read the content of the compressed file.

Windows cannot unzip file paths longer than 255 characters (i.e. if the filename or folder path is very long). 7zip can decompress this file, but MX will not be able maintain the audit trail.

If parts of the site are not behaving as you would expect, this is likely down to a browser cache issue.

Your browser cache needs clearing

Your local browser cache files can sometimes cause issues with downloads, viewing activity or working with Personal Groups. Periodically clearing the cache will prevent this issue, especially after site upgrades take place (communicated via MX itself).

To force a page re-load (ignore the existing cached files), try the following;

Hold down CTRL + F5 or Shift + F5 whilst on the MX page causing an issue.

If this does not work, you can speak to your local IT group for help with this, but below are the direct links to some of the vendors own instructions to clear the cache yourself

Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Opera.
Microsoft Edge

I've cleared the cache and still cannot send or download data

Sometimes a 'soft' browser clear is not enough. To force the cache to be refreshed, start an Incognito or private browser window that ignores any existing cache files.

Instructions from the vendors below so you can find the instructions for your web browser.

Incognito (Google Chrome)

Private browser (Mozilla Firefox)

In-Private (Microsoft Edge)

My uploads are OK, but I still cannot download data

If you still cannot download data (including an error that says "not available on site"), this may be because your IT group operate rules that do not automatically allow downloads from one of the many MX download servers.

If you can download data from other locations (or even on a different (guest) network), then it is highly likely that your IT group operate a Whitelist and you will need your IT group to give permission to the servers listed here. As soon as they have made that change, MX downloads will work.
