Who makes authenticator apps?

There are many authenticator apps to choose from - too many to list here - but a selection of popular / common apps are shown below.

1Password

Authy

Google

iOS integrated 2FA generator (iOS 15 and above)

Microsoft

Salesforce

Are they all the same?

In terms of the core functionality, yes; they all generate random 6-digit codes that change every 30 seconds.

However, some apps provide functionality like cloud back-up / migration, multi-device support and browser plug-ins to provide more flexibility to users.

Which one should I use?

Please speak to your IT team first, as you should be using any company-approved / preferred authenticator apps.

The MX team do not recommend any particular MFA app because (as mentioned above) they all work in the same way. Which one you use depends on IT policies, your preference for functionality, support and pricing.
